Board of Directors


Ms. Regina Shumate is a human resources professional with over 20 years of experience in various areas of human resources management including; labor and employee relations, recruitment, benefits administration, and training and development. She was appointed to the Reid Temple Restoration Center, Inc. Board of Directors in December of 2014, and has served as a mentor to middle school and high school students, and a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Prince George’s County. Mrs. Shumate holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication from James Madison University, and a Master of Science degree from Central Michigan University.

Ms. Shumate and her husband Chad are the proud parents of two children, and she is a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden.

WANDA SMITH, Secretary

Ms. Wanda Smith is a licensed social worker and works for the Area Agency on Aging, Department of Family Services for Fairfax County Government in Fairfax, Virginia. She has been a member of Reid Temple African Methodist Episcopal Church for 15 years. She is a member of the Prayer Ministry (Push) and Co-leads the Marriage Enrichment Ministry at the North campus with her husband Eric. Ms. Smith joined the Restoration Center as a Stephen Minister in 2009 and actively served for 4 years. Over the years she has been active with fundraisers, workshops and advocacy programs offered by the Restoration Center.

Ms. Smith has been married to Eric Smith for the past 35 years and they have 4 adult children and 4 grandchildren.

Donald E. Knight, Treasurer

Dr. Donald E. Knight is a mental health professional and university faculty member with experience in multicultural counseling and training, minority men’s mental health, and mentoring. He joined the Reid Temple Restoration Center, Inc. Board of Directors in February of 2017; and he also volunteers with his high school alumni foundation, in serving the students at Surrattsville High School in Prince George’s County, MD. Dr. Knight completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, a Master of Art degree in College Student Personnel from New York University, and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University

SYLVIA PAULING, Advisory Member

Sylvia Pauling, M.A., LPC, is a licensed professional counselor who has been an activist and advocate in the movement to end domestic violence for over twenty years. Ms. Pauling is the President/CEO of The Pauling Institute Inc. in Washington, D.C. , where she maintains a private practice; her areas of expertise are domestic violence, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), grief and family therapy. She is also the Domestic Violence Specialist at the District of Columbia, Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA).

Ms. Pauling is a Certified Danger Assessor and a DC Victim Assistance Academy Graduate. Ms. Pauling received her B.S. Degree in Psychology from South Carolina State University, M.A. Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Trinity College.
